The Party

Posted by Tom Fri, 13 Feb 2009 12:13:00 GMT

Hello All!

Let this serve notice that we will be hosting a Party on Friday, February 20th from 5:30 until 9:30. We will be honored not only with your presence but also with that of Mary Flowers – a real Blues Woman! She will do her thing for about an hour or so before heading off to catch that train.

As for the wine at the party, well, that’s up to you, and we haven’t been let down yet. Bringing out a bottle or two from your locker or cellar sets a good example and keeps the juices flowing. As former food service workers, we always preach the FIFO (first in, first out) rule but we understand that with some wine we may not be so worthy. To keep things interesting, and as a general rule of thumb, we ask for a bottle contributed by each person - including guests. Please bring guests!

We will have plenty of food that we make ourselves along with the occasional dish contributed by clients. If bringing any special foodstuffs interests you, please let us know so we can incorporate it into the plan.

Aside from everything I mentioned above, this is really a relaxed party with a lot of great wine to try and food to eat and little pressure to do anything more than show up, open something up, and enjoy yourself. See you then!

As a satisfied room renter for a several years, I am happy to see that PWS is attempting to make the place more inviting than just a place to keep my bottles. I’ve always been impressed with Tom and Joe and their friendliness and willingness to lend a helping hand. As an older customer, I think perhaps they do tend to underestimate the value of ambience to the customer. By that I mean the way the place looks and feels. I know that wine cellars are dark, humid and cavelike. That’s part of the schtick. But they needn’t be constantly cluttered with empty boxes and assorted trash. The tasting room should be inviting and comfortable and not just in a Gen X way, either! You want us to come. Build a field of dreams we want to play on, not just store our wine on! Do that and I won’t even mind if you raise my rent!!

Good luck in your efforts to build a community, guys! I have good friends whom I’d love to bring by. Make it a place I’d be pleased to show them!!
